A true story

In the commune of Sânzieni and the related villages, the Roma community is poor due to absence of education.

Adults do not have the opportunity to work, this has led to the formation of disorganized families. Some families have occasionally work as day laborers, while others go to work abroad. These situations have led to shortcomings such as lack of clothing, lack of food package generating children’s disinterest in school and a very large number of absences.

A family in the commune composed of a father, a mother and two children in the 4th and 5th classes, are a disorganized family with a precarious financial situation, without a job, living on children’s allowances and on occasional of their mother.

These children did not attend school regularly. After the implementation of the FRDS project, and the hot meal accorded for the children, a higher presence of students included in the program was observed.

The two children continued to be absent in their classes. After the death of their father, the children began to accept the food offered in the school. They started attending classes more often, also led to a much better integration in the class. There is also a development of attention, an improvement of skills and involvement in educational and extracurricular activities. Collaborating with colleagues and teachers is more effective they learned and applied basic rules of personal hygiene, began to understand and follow the rules. They are more sociable and their integration into the class and school community is getting better and better.
